It's Back to Pre-School Time!

Today was Coulson's first day of 3-year-old preschool.  He goes 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday, and he eats lunch there.  He is very proud of his Lightning McQueen lunch box.  He handled himself pretty well at drop-off time, which was a relief.  Lately he's been extra clingy when it was time for him to go to Sunday School at church, so I've been concerned about preschool.  At first we would bribe him with the promise of a Krispy Kreme doughnut after church (thankfully the church lobby always has a few dozen every Sunday morning), but lately, this delicious reward wasn't helping.  So this Sunday morning, we practiced saying good-bye for Sunday School with a little role reversal.  I played the part of Coulson and he was the Mommy.  In our practice, he had no trouble giving me a hug and a kiss and walking away.  Amazingly, the strategy worked - he did a fine job at Sunday School.

So I tried out the role-playing for preschool as well.  We even acted out making new friends.  Coulson likes to be the teacher.  I got tired of the role playing, so I showed him how he could pretend his stuffed animals were his students.  Genius!  We'll see how long it works...

He had a good time at preschool.  He couldn't tell me much about it - the kid can talk non-stop all day about the most bizzare stuff, but he can't ever answer the simple question "What did you do today?"  So I gathered most of my information from yes/no questions.

It will be fun to see how much he grows up this year.  Just looking back on the first day of school last year makes me realize how much he's grown in just a year.

Charlie is also trying to grow up.  He tries to sit in Coulson's rocking chair like a big boy.  Finally today he started walking a bit more.  He still only takes 5 steps, but today those 5 steps became stronger, more stable, and more definitive.  Today he also added some new sounds to his babble - "la" and "bla."  And at dinner tonight, he insisted on sitting at the table in Coulson's booster seat.  So Coulson moved to a regular chair and we all sat around the same table like a family.  He was so cute sitting there eating his food with a fork and trying to be all big-boy.  My boys are growing up!
