Not that their opinion would change anything, but I like to get my kids' thoughts on a new baby before we actually crash their world with news of an addition. Before we got pregnant with Charlie, I asked Coulson if he would like a brother or sister and I made sure I got his affirmative answer on video. (See video at the end of this post.)
Last night, as the subject came up in natural conversation, I didn't have the camera ready, so I thought I would blog the conversation verbatim, in case the boys complain one day about their little sibling, I can remind them they wanted this. We were talking about pacifiers and that's where this started:
Charlie: Where are the pacifiers? Where are the pacifiers?
Mommy: We don't have any pacifiers now, we don't have any little babies in the house.
Daddy: Would you like to have a little baby in the house?
Both boys nod their heads yes.
Mommy, looking at Coulson: Do you really want a baby brother or sister?
Coulson: Yes, and I don't care if it's a brother or sister, because I'll be all grown. (I think he was saying that he's older now, so he doesn't need it to be brother a for a playmate)
Charlie: Or we could have two babies.
Mommy: Two babies? Ha, ha!
Coulson: That would be twins.
Mommy: And that would twice as much work. Maybe three times as much work.
Coulson just nods his head in agreement.
At this point, I was starting to get nervous about twins, so I just ended the conversation.
We really want to tell them, but we have decided to wait until the ultrasound next week and make sure we see that beating heart before we share with them. And we realize that once we tell them, we are risking exposure because they can't keep secrets.
